About Me
Nice to meet you!
Hi I’m Alex! I am from the beautiful historic county of Yorkshire. I have loved the natural world since I was very young and loved roaming the countryside. My parents taught me how to look after injured animals in our garden and how to care for plants and nature.
I started drawing when I was young, I loved drawing animals and in particular I loved drawing dragons! A lot of my sketchbooks from then are filled with those wonderful creatures. I stopped drawing when I went to college as I wanted to take a different path for myself. Years later, working in an office, I felt like something was missing and that my life was in black and white, and that was when I discovered the wonderful world of art.
How I started
I actually started with a set of face paints (of all mediums!) and experimented with different colours and painting strokes. A few years later I felt like I needed some tuition as I wasn't progressing very well (maybe because I was painting on my body, backwards in a mirror!). I enrolled in an acrylics course at a college and studied painting for a term. Whenever I had free time I would practise drawing and painting and learning from books and online courses. Let's just say I didn't have much of a social life during that time!
I experimented with many different mediums including coloured pencil, watercolours, oil paints and gouache. I then discovered pastels and oh my! It was love at first sight. I loved how vibrant and how easy it was to blend together, I finally felt like the connection between what was in my head and what was showing on the paper were finally working together.
Now & the Future
A few years later I now have my very own Etsy store where I sell prints, cards and bookmarks of my art and create custom portraits of peoples pets. I value the importance of cherishing our beloved Earth and looking for ways to minimise plastic usage and using sustainable products, which is why all of my packaging is recycled and biodegradable. I am always working towards becoming as eco friendly as possible.
I am so excited for the future and I have many ideas that I want to get on paper. I've started filming some online tutorials and full length classes, I will be extending my range of products in my Etsy store and hope to illustrate a book one day! I hope to inspire people with my art and create a sense of calm in a busy world.
